Christina Patterson: Julian Assange: When "Exposing Bastards" Turns Into a Cult

Now,” says the figure bathed in golden light, “we face our greatest challenge. Join us,” he says, “in our struggle.” Above him is a canopy of autumn leaves, and a big sky, dotted with clouds, like the clouds in a Dutch painting. You almost expect a heavenly choir, or at least some stirring music. But there isn’t a choir. Just a bloke in a brown sweater staring straight to a camera and telling us that “WikiLeaks needs you.”

Penny C. Sansevieri: The Quickest Way to Kill Your Online Success

I have a friend who lives in San Diego. She and her boyfriend rented this lovely home outside of the city. They have tons of land, a great house. It was really a fantastic deal. Since they were in such a good place, the rent was cheap and they had no intention of moving anytime soon, they decided to do some minor renovations to the house. This became their “weekend warrior” project. They’d paint, tinker, plant and in the end, they had a great and slightly improved property. Then one day the owner stopped by for a visit. “Bad news,” he said, “I need to sell this property and I have a buyer who wants to offer top dollar, in a market like this I’m sure you understand why I need to take it.” They had 30 days to move out.

Twitter.com for iPad eyes-on, now with 100 percent more HTML5

Even if you weren’t waiting for it, it’s finally here. Next time you grab your iPad and want to check Twitter sans official app, you’ll be able to do it in tablet-optimized form. The San Franciscan company just outed a delectable HTML5 redux of its desktop equivalent, carrying over the animated two-pane design of its forebearer, while replicating niceties like pull-to-refresh and scroll bouncing from its native iOS app. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get to the goodness from our Galaxy Tab 10.1, but given the open nature of the web, we’re hoping an Android compatible version isn’t far off. And if you’re not seeing the refresh on your iPad yet, sit tight; the company’s rolling out access throughout the week. In the meantime, feel free to ogle at the bevy of snaps we grabbed below.

C25K: A Good Fitness App For Lazy People?

In my third week of 5K training, I was struck with dreaded shin splints. Usually this would be cause for celebration, as it would mean I didn’t have to exercise anymore. But with a mandatory race on my sister’s wedding day just a month away, I attempted to power through, and in so doing got a good idea of how the app C25K (that’s Couch to 5K, abbreviated for the cool kids) motivates its users.

Verizon’s Blackberry Bold 9930 unveiled early thanks to website blunder

Oh boy, we don’t envy the Verizon web admin who made this particular mis-click. If you go to VZW’s sales page for the Blackberry 9650 and click on the “Explore Features” video, you get an unexpected treat: a walkthrough not of the 9650, but of the unreleased Bold 9930. The specs are familiar, like the 1.2GHz processor, 2.8-inch touchscreen and Blackberry 7 OS. But at least we now have it from the horse’s mouth that the new Bold Touch is indeed coming to Verizon. We’ve stuck our own rip of the video after the break, as the original will likely disappear any second — much like that poor web admin.

Test your resolve against the Kirby: Mass Attack Japanese website

Kirby: Mass Attack promises to be a barrel of cuteness wrapped in a bow of adorable-osity floating in an ocean of kitties and baby penguins, according to its new Japanese website. If you can stand the brightly colored assault on the senses, the site has bunches of new videos for Mass Attack and enough miniature Kirbies to populate a small, bubblegum-colored island.

Leon Logothetis: Socially Challenged

“How can you squander even one more day not taking advantage of the greatest shifts of our generation? How dare you settle for less when the world has made it so easy for you to be remarkable?” -Seth Godin

What do you love, asks Google with a new portal to its many web services

Say hello to your new online friend, wdyl.com. An eagle-eyed TechCrunch tipster spotted this freshly launched Google portal, whose purpose it seems to be to gather up all of the company’s multifarious web services under one umbrella. A Google search for Google products, in other words. Punching in a topic brings up its popularity in Google Trends, lets you set up Google Alerts, plan related events in Google Calendar, email someone in Gmail, or hit up Picasa, YouTube or Google News with the same query. You get the picture. It hasn’t yet been made official and hitting up the site without the “www.” prefix throws up a bad URL error at the moment, but it’s there and seemingly fully functional. Give it a try and let us know which search terms bring up the most humorous results.
