Mad Catz’ Cyborg RAT series of adjustable computer mice has seen its fair share of minor revisions, and while wireless upgrades and whitewashed DPI tweaks have given consumers a hair of choice in transforming desktop pests, the differences between these devices has been modest, at best. Until now, at least. Enter the Cyborg M.M.O. 7, the outfit’s latest addition to its aggressively styled line of gaming mice, minus the RAT moniker. Despite shedding the name of its predecessors, Mad Catz’ latest point-and-clicker is as much of a RAT as the mice that came before it, but distinguishes itself with more buttons, more features and more color. This week, an animated trailer for an imaginary Zelda game got us wondering why exactly games often can’t live up to the thrilling scenes we’re shown in pre-release videos. Konami net income up 77 percent year-over-year

We’re still a couple of months away from the end of fiscal 2012, but the first 9 months of the confusingly offset financial season have treated Konami extremely well: The company reports a 77.3 percent year-over-year increase in net income over fiscal 2011, earning profits of ¥17.05 billion ($224 million) for the period.

Xbox co-creator brings together Atari ‘dream team’ for mobile gaming startup

A new mobile gaming startup that’s yet to release a single game isn’t the sort of thing we’d normally cover ’round here, but the story behind Los Angeles-based Innovative Leisure is anything but ordinary. The man behind the company is the co-creator of the Xbox, Seamus Blackley, and he’s brought with him eleven industry veterans that he calls “the dream team from Atari,” including the likes of Van Burnham, Ed Logg, Rich Adam, Tim Skelly, Owen Rubin, and Ed Rotberg. While those names may not be familiar to everyone, you’ll surely recognize some of the games they were responsible for: Asteroids, Centipede, Gauntlet, Missile Command, Battlezone, S.T.U.N. Runner, Major Havoc and Space Duel, to name a few.

Oklahoma lawmaker proposes tax on "violent" video games (and Ultimate Card Games)



When the US Supreme Court decided last year to extend full First Amendment protections to video games, many likely thought that was the last word on potential legal assaults on the medium. That’s not the case though, as an Oklahoma lawmaker has now proposed a special tax to be focused on “violent video games.”

Shocker: PS Vita downloads cheaper than boxed games

Digital copies of games that you download bypass the time-and-money-consuming manufacturing, logistics and retail processes. It’s only natural that we as consumers expect some of that saving to be passed along to our own wallets. There’s a fair chunk of evidence to suggest that downloading PS Vita games over PSN will result in a ten percent saving on the boxed edition (that you’d have to drive to a store for, and everything). Of course, it would be unseemly to point out that those few dollars will spell the death-knell for thousands of jobs, so we won’t.

Parcel Gamer wants to share used game profits with publishers



At the heart of the great used game debate are legitimate fears—on both sides of the divide. Gamers are worried about their right to buy and sell games they legally bought without technological hindrance or lost content. Publishers are afraid new game sales are unsustainable when cheaper, functionally identical used versions are available mere days after release. Meanwhile, major retailer GameStop rakes in what’s estimated to be billions of dollars from the used game market.

Humble Bundle expands to Android with World of Goo, Anomaly and more

The choose-your-own-price Humble Bundle has proven to be a runaway success on desktop platforms — helping fund indie developers and causes like Child’s Play and the EFF alike — and it’s now finally taken the plunge onto mobile devices. That move was kicked off today with the Humble Bundle for Android, which includes the games Anomaly: Warzone Earth, Osmos, and EDGE. Those three are available for any price you choose, but you’ll also get World of Goo thrown in if you pay more than the average price (just over $5 as of this writing).
